On 12 November 2013, Professor Kordula Świętorzecka of the Institute of Philosophy of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University, visited Opole University to deliver her lecture under the title Changeability and Constancy in Frame of Consistency. Modal Logic LC□.
The meeting with Professor Kordula Świętorzecka was organized by the Institute of Philosophy of Opole University, the Opole Branch of Polish Philosophical Society and the Group of Logic, Language and Information at Opole University. The lecturer and the guests were welcomed by Professor Urszula Wybraniec-Skardowska. Then, Professor Janusz Czelakowski presented the scientific silhouette of the speaker.
In her lecture, Professor Kordula Świętorzecka made a presentation of the modal logic LC□ of change and constancy, being an extension of classical logic. In the opening part, philosophical aspects that lie at the foundations of the above-mentioned logic were presented. The lecturer made references to and discussed the notion of change in the spirit of Aristotle’s and Leibniz’s thoughts. Following the presentation of the philosophical themes, she pointed to the manner of conceptualization that framed the notion of change both in the spirit of Aristotle and that of Leibniz, as well as presented and discussed the axiomatic character of the modal logic LC□ of change. In this logic, it is not only the very change itself that is taken into account through the introduction of the modal connective "it changes that", but also its opposition through the introduction of the modal connective "it lasts, that".
In the discussion which commenced already during the lecture and which continued afterwards, different themes connected with the problem area were raised.
